Ready for a Nice, Long Weekend...

I wish I could say my 4-day weekend would be relaxing...but that would be a lie. Being that my daughter's second birthday is next month, my husband and I are going to start on her "big girl" room.

I am a sucker for zebra...and the color pink. I wish I could get away from this obsession and try something so non-cliche, but I already have my vision. When you use zebra-print in a room, the key is "less is more". I have seen rooms where this scheme looks very distasteful...but these rooms had entirely too much. If you keep the saying "less is more" in mind, you can make a room that is, indeed, tasteful.

The to-do list for this weekend includes building her a canopy toddler bed...and a dollhouse (I say dollhouse too, but only if I can convince my husband of this). I have done my research and here is my inspiration room. Take a look here at the full description.

A Bedroom for a Princess, This is my youngest daughter's bedroom. I spray painted the 4-poster bed with metalic paint. I made the bedding and curtains with a faux zebra velour, silver raw silk, and pink ball fringe. My Dad built the doll house and decorated the inside to match his own house with left-over fabric and wallpaper remnants. The chandelier is from IKEA. I made the painting with acrylic paint on wood., Girls' Rooms Design

Isn't she a beauty?! And there's not much zebra...and you don't need much because, as shown here, just the bedding alone makes a BIG statement. Being that my kiddo is still small, we will be using a toddler bed instead of getting something this big. I found the plans to build one on ana-white.com. If you haven't checked this page out, you need to NOW. The plans are very detailed listing things you need to buy right down to the cuts you need to make. This is the bed that I am going to tackle this weekend:

I am having a delimma over what color to paint it: silver or black? Let me know your opinion. I love the silver in the inspiration room and I think the black may be too over-powering for the space. On the other hand, I love black furniture in general.

I told my husband, Kyle, that we work good as a team, that I let him do all the work and I just tell him how to do it. Needless to say, we have a very interesting weekend ahead.

Thanks for stopping by and check back in on the finished product!
